Blue Heron Bridge Marine Life & Conservation

Blue Heron Bridge is known for the marine life around the Phil Foster Memorial Park snorkel trail and nearby dive areas. Palm Beach County lists squid, octopus, spotted rays and starfish among the animals regularly seen, but sightings are never guaranteed and vary with conditions.

Look closely; leave the site as you found it

  • Watch marine life without touching, chasing, feeding or moving it.
  • Use controlled buoyancy and keep fins clear of the bottom and submerged structures.
  • Take photos without grabbing animals or changing their behavior.
  • Keep your group compact and avoid stirring up sand or sediment.
  • Give other divers and snorkelers room to enjoy the site.

Know the local collection rules

Palm Beach County prohibits harvesting or possessing tropical fish and tropical ornamental marine plants within Phil Foster Memorial Park and the waters inside the park boundary. The county also prohibits knives or spear guns to capture fish in county park waters. Follow current posted rules and leave marine life in place.

Bring the right skills for the site

Good buoyancy, careful fin control and a steady buddy plan make it easier to observe marine life without disturbing it. If the current or visibility makes it hard to stay in control, end the dive and try another time.
