Advanced Nitrox and Decompression Procedures
Are you looking to expand your dive time? Maybe you’re a scientific diver or photographer looking to stay in the water longer. The TDI Advanced Nitrox Course qualifies divers to use enriched air nitrox from EAN 21 through EAN 100 percent within your current certification level to a maximum depth of 45 meters/150 feet during dives that do not require staged decompression. Often taught in conjunction with the TDI Decompression Procedures course, this can be considered the foundation of your technical diving career. TDI Advanced Nitrox is also a must for SCR or CCR divers.
When you book this course, you will receive all the student materials to complete at home, which takes about 10 hours.
An instructor will then reach out to schedule your classroom session and dives.
The course includes gas and 6 dives (3 charters with 2 dives each).
Additional dives are not included but can be arranged separately.

What is TDI Advanced Nitrox?
TDI Advanced Nitrox teaches divers to use enriched air nitrox from EAN21 through EAN100 within their certification limits. It is a foundation course for technical divers and future SCR or CCR divers.
Is Advanced Nitrox taught alone?
At Stuart Scuba, Advanced Nitrox is normally taught with TDI Decompression Procedures or TDI Helitrox. This lets equipment, dive planning, gas selection, skills, and emergency procedures work together as one technical-diving program.
What is the difference?
Advanced Nitrox covers higher-oxygen gases and oxygen-exposure management. Decompression Procedures adds staged-decompression planning and execution. Helitrox adds helium-based breathing mixtures to reduce nitrogen exposure on deeper dives.
What will I learn?
Training covers oxygen physiology, maximum operating depth, gas analysis, gas planning, equipment configuration, team procedures, buoyancy, trim, propulsion, shutdowns, gas sharing, decompression-gas handling, DSMB deployment, and dive planning.
How much study is required?
After booking, you will receive materials to complete at home. Plan on 10 hours of independent study. Your instructor will contact you to schedule class and training dives.
What is included?
The course includes breathing gas and six training dives over three two-dive charters. Equipment needs depend on your course combination. Stuart Scuba will review your equipment and explain any rental or purchase requirements.
How deep will I dive?
Depth depends on the course combination, certifications, gas plan, conditions, and performance. Training may progress to 45 meters/150 feet when allowed by standards. Performance and judgment matter.

Course prerequisites
(these requirements must be met prior to the start of the course):
- Minimum age 18, 15 with parental consent
- Minimum certification of TDI Nitrox Diver or equivalent
- Proof of 25 logged open water dives
What you can expect to learn:
Advanced Nitrox picks up where TDI Nitrox leaves off and offers a more in-depth look at diving with nitrox including:
- Physics and physiology relating to diving with gas mixes containing more than 40% oxygen
- Gas planning, dive tables, dive computers, oxygen limitations, nitrogen limitations
- Equipment considerations, cylinder labeling, analyzing nitrox mixtures, gas blending procedures, and oxygen service ratings for using gases with more than 40% oxygen
Some of the skills you will complete in this course include:
- Demonstrate buoyancy control; ability to hover at fixed position in water column without moving hands or feet
- Show good awareness of buddy and other team members through communication, proximity, and team oriented dive practices
- Demonstrate the ability to manage free flow from primary regulator in controlled fashion, shut down cycle, and switch to back up regulator
- Conduct appropriate safety stop while maintaining neutral buoyancy
- Demonstrate the ability to share air with buddy as both recipient and donor in a controlled manner while maintaining position in the water column
- Demonstrate correct body position; appropriate trim, such as horizontal/streamlined when moving forward
- Demonstrate proper stress analysis with self and dive buddy

- Backplate/Harness/Wing (or Sidemount Harness - Redundant Inflation Recommended)
- Primary and Backup Regulators with SPG w/SPG, 2 first stages and 2 second stages (Long hose setup required for back/sidemount)
- 2 Dive Computers (Shearwater or Garmin recommended)
- 150ft Ascent Reel with DSMB (open bottom)
- Back Up Reel and DSMB
- 2 Line Cutting Devices
- 3 Lights
- Wet Notes
- Adequate Exposure Suit for environment
- Tech Shorts/Glue On Thigh Pockets/Drysuit with Pockets or Similar Reommeded)
TDI Advanced Nitrox Diver minimum certification requirements:
- Satisfactorily complete the TDI Advanced Nitrox course and written examination
- Complete all open water requirements safely and efficiently
- Demonstrate mature, sound judgment concerning dive planning and execution
